Newburyport MA was wonderfully redeveloped in the 70s, the planning architect was the late J. Timothy Anderson. The firm he founded, under his leadership, also did the redevelopment plan for South Beach in Miami and he was one of my best …friends.

The other comment I would make is that it must have been a lot easier to be a teacher when kids were as well behaved as these appear to have been.See More

    • Karl Reisman Michael – yes. There they are with their arms crossed in perfect military or ballet drill. And those faces. Easier? Different for sure – and the borderline between well behaved and downright sadistic must have been crossed a lot. But I remember many sadisms from boarding school and the dress drill and other ‘good order’ are not really among them.

Karl Reisman On the use and consequences of fictional (fantasy) prices in hospital and medical billing. In August I had an MRI scan. My insurance company paid $750 and I was asked to pay $550 copay. So the market price was $1300. But my copay was based on a listed hospital price of $5500. So my 10% copay became a 40% copay. We… cannot reform the health system unless the ability to use these aritificial prices is removed.

Karl Reisman What came out in the Jon Stewart interview – which those in the room with him have known all along – is that President Obama is a nice guy, bright and thoughtful and caring. The kind America chews up for breakfast any morning. But not magic, except at moments. We don’t deserve him. But if we would support him the White House would be in Good Hands.

Michael Dowd Obama’s very seriously smart, and his heart is (mostly) in the right place, but if he won’t decide to communicate effectively to middle class people about creating private sector business jobs he is going to create some real Republican majorities. Since he wants to be a leader it’s his job to lead. It’s not to late but it’s his to do (or not).
